Speedy mare Satirical Lass has trialled brilliantly in the lead up to her return at Doomben but trainer Tony Gollan believes the run will improve her even further.
Satirical Lass recently blitzed a Deagon trial field by 5-1/2 length, recording a slick 59.06 seconds for the 1000 metres.
The mare, who has also clocked some fast times in her races, will take on open company for the first time when she resumes in the Tattersall's Arcade Hcp (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Gollan said Satirical Lass was a big mare who carried a lot of condition early in her campaign.
"She is as fit as we can get her without racing," Gollan said.
"But she is a big girl and I would expect her to improve further for the run.
"Satirical Lass is capable of running very fast times so they will need to be on their game to beat her.
"We are hoping she can measure up to the winter carnival and we need to get her rating up higher."
Gollan also has Someday in the Open handicap and expects him to again run well.
"His two runs off a long break have been very good. He was unlucky last start and probably should have won," Gollan said.
"Someday will have a let-up after this race and we will map out a winter campaign for him."
The premier trainer is again expected to play a major role at Doomben where he also has two runners in the Listed Tattersall's Members' Cup (1600m) which has attracted a small field of eight.
"The race is at a funny time of the year but it gives owners a chance to win a stakes race and get their horses up there to get winter carnival starts," Gollan said.
The Lindsay Gough-trained Right Or Wrong is a popular $1.60 favourite while Gollan's pair are regarded as outside chances.
"But they are fit and you never know what can happen in a small field," Gollan said.
