Trainer Robbie Griffiths insists he wasn't disappointed Selenia missed a start in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
Selenia was first emergency in last week's Group One race and now the filly is a black-type winner after her victory in the 3AW 693 News Talk Sport Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
"We were hoping to get into the Blue Diamond but we did say to ourselves that we're probably not as good as Mick Price's colt (Extreme Choice) and not getting in it was probably a blessing in disguise," Griffiths said.
"This 1000-metre race was a better proposition and also you don't want to get in off someone else's misfortune.
"It's worked out great for us and she's now a stakes winner."
Ridden by Jye McNeil, Selenia ($5.50) scored a half-length win over Alter Call ($9) with Creativity ($7.50) the same margin away third.
The field split in two over the straight 1000m course and at the last meeting on February 20 the grandstand side proved superior.
The first two home in Saturday's race came down the inside section.
"It was her first time down the straight so we wanted to make sure she had it as comfortable as possible and Jye thought (the track) walked better in there," Griffiths said.
