Champion stallion Hussonet has died of a stroke at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia aged 25.
A seven-time champion sire in Chile, Hussonet was imported to Australia by Arrowfield Stud and made an immediate impact, producing Weekend Hussler from his first crop.
A six-time Group One winner at three, Weekend Hussler was named Australia's best for the 2007/08 season.
He spent the past five years at Cornerstone Stud which announced his death on Monday.
"Whilst he has lived to a great age of twenty-five, it is always difficult saying goodbye to a legend who was so dear to all our hearts here at Cornerstone," a statement from the stud said.
