A midweek careless riding suspension has cost Craig Williams a start on the opening day of The Championships at Randwick.
Williams was outed for 11 meetings on Wednesday for his ride on third-placegetter Spiral in The Grand Hotel Frankston Plate at Sandown.
The jockey flagged the possibility of starting his suspension immediately by forfeiting rides at Moonee Valley on Thursday night and a full book at Rosehill on Saturday, so as to ride at Randwick on April 2.
"Saturday week is the second biggest day of racing in Australia," Williams told Racing Victoria stewards.
"It would be my ideal goal to ride at that meeting."
However, he will instead honour his upcoming mounts which include Group One rides aboard Gregers in the William Reid Stakes on Thursday night along with Honesta in the Vinery Stud Stakes and Rising Romance in The BMW on Saturday.
Williams was in the running to partner Tally, who he rode to victory in the Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley last week, in the ATC Australian Derby and was booked to ride Volkstok'n'barrell in The Doncaster Mile.
His suspension begins after the Sandown meeting on Monday and he is free to ride again on April 7.
