Imported gelding Ranked will take a vital step towards giving trainer John Wallace his sixth Toowoomba Cup victory when he races at Doomben.
Ranked will be having his final start before next month's Toowoomba Cup in Saturday's Coke Zero Handicap (2020m).
Wallace holds the record for most Toowoomba Cups with Distancia (twice), Prince of Persia, Caper Sauce and Musashi Of Mieko.
But the now Gold Coast-based Wallace would dearly love to make it six in his old home town.
Wallace has had many good stayers with the best Oompala who won five Cups and ran third in the 1994 Melbourne Cup.
"But the Toowoomba Cup and Weetwood are two races Darling Downs trainers always want to win," Wallace said.
"It doesn't matter where you end up being based, those are the races you chase.
"It is hard to believe I won my first Toowoomba Cup 45 years ago. I wish I could turn back the clock a bit."
Ranked originally raced in England as Rougemont and won twice at Newmarket.
Lloyd Williams bought him as a potential Cups horse but he failed to reach that level and went through a dispersal sale.
Since arriving on the Gold Coast last year the gelding has been a consistent performer with a win and four placings from seven starts.
"He is coming along nicely and he is the type of horse who should be suited around Toowoomba," Wallace said.
"I think he should make the Toowoomba Cup field no matter what but a win on Saturday would ensure he gets a start."
