Thubiaan a star over jumps at Oakbank

Tuesday 29 March 2016, 7:10am

Former Chris Waller-trained stayer Thubiaan has added the Great Eastern Steeplechase to his record at the famous Oakbank Easter meeting in South Australia.

Trainer Eric Musgrove admitted he thought about scratching the eight-year-old after he finished second to Nishiazabu in Saturday's Von Doussa Steeple.

But he let him take his chance two days later and Thubiaan reversed the positions to win by 15 lengths under Martin Kelly.

Musgrove said Thubiaan will now be set for the Warrnambool carnival in May and a defence of the Brierly Steeple.

A winner of one race in Europe as a young horse, Thubiaan won five races on the flat for Waller and has added another seven over jumps.
