Barrier draws will dictate the course Casual Choice will take into the winter carnival after his impressive Doomben win.
Jockey Jim Byrne gave his mount the run of the race from an inside barrier and Casual Choice ($7) got home by a head to Flying Riddle ($17) in the Love U Lauren Dooley Handicap on Saturday.
Trainer Tony Gollan said the key to Casual Choice was good barriers and he had not been worried the gelding had gone up 5kg in weight after winning his previous start - the Gold Coast Stakes.
"I was confident he would have no trouble with the 59 kilos today and from barrier three we could ride him the way we like," Gollan said.
"Casual Choice will run in either the Weetwood Handicap in Toowoomba in two weeks or the Ascot Handicap at the Sunshine Coast a week later.
"I would love to win my home-town race (the Weetwood) but he will wait a week if he draws badly."
Gollan believes Casual Choice can win a Group Two or Group Three race in the winter if the barrier draw is kind.
Trainer Robert Heathcote told Kaiser Franz's jockey Damian Browne to "ride him like Buffering" before the gelding won the Hog's Breath Handicap.
Browne, who won in Dubai on Buffering for Heathcote last week, produced the ride of the day aboard Kaiser Franz ($2.60) who had been unlucky at his previous three starts.
The champion jockey also got plenty of credit from stand-in trainer Toby Edmonds after the Sydney-based Snowden galloper El Sasso ($3.40) won the Motorama Handicap (1100m).
"One thing about Damian, even when he is caught three deep he can get them to travel well,' Edmonds said.
Edmonds got a winner in his own right with Fiery Heights ($4.20).
"The form out of the race might be good and we will look for something a bit better for him," Edmonds said.
