Awesome Rock's luck has changed with the first emergency gaining a start in the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes following the scratching of Our Ivanhowe.
After losing his win in the Group One Australian Cup to Preferment on protest, Awesome Rock was named an emergency in Sydney's richest race on Saturday which is restricted to 14 runners because of the rail placement.
The Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained Our Ivanhowe developed a hoof problem after his fifth in the Australian Cup and was unplaced in the BMW, also won by Preferment, when he ran in glue-on shoes.
Because of the interruptions to his preparation, Our Ivanhowe was switched to the shorter Queen Elizabeth (2000m) in preference to the 3200m of the Sydney Cup.
"Unfortunate for connections of Our Ivanhowe. Super happy to get Awesome Rock into the QE field on Saturday!" co-trainer Troy Corstens tweeted.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Supara has gained a start in the Group One Queen of the Turf (1600m) with the scratching of Politeness because of a temperature.
Supara finished second to Queen of the Turf rival Zanbagh in the Group Two Emancipation Stakes.
Zanbagh is the $7 second elect on Saturday with Azkadellia the $3.80 favourite.
