She's Miss Devine has ended the winning streak of stablemate French Emotion in bringing up a one-two finish for Chris Waller at Sandown.
Supported from $5.50 into $3.70 in Saturday's Ladbrokes Bet Better Handicap (1300m), She's Miss Devine and got home by a long neck over French Emotion who was chasing her fifth-straight win.
She's Miss Devine, a stakes placegetter in Brisbane last winter, was making her Melbourne debut after resuming in Sydney with a Warwick Farm placing at her first start for Waller.
Jockey Ben Melham said he was impressed even though She's Miss Devine proved difficult to ride out.
French Emotion, who opened at $1.85 before starting $2.35 favourite, was caught three-wide from a deep barrier before making her challenge on the outside but couldn't peg back the stablemate who sat behind the leader.
"She was able to control the race from where we were," Melham said.
"She made it a bit difficult to ride out in the straight because she wanted to hang quite badly the whole way.
"But she's a nice mare. She obviously beat the stablemate which had the runs on the board, so it was an impressive win."
