Dunn brings up consecutive city trebles

Saturday 9 April 2016, 3:56pm

Matt Dunn has completed his most successful week as a trainer and signalled he will be a force in the winter carnival stakes races with a treble at Doomben.

The wins of Perfect Dare ($4.20), Kebede ($10) and Caillebotte ($6) gave him six metropolitan victories for the week after he trained a treble at Ipswich on Wednesday.

"I have had a city treble before but I have never had metropolitan trebles at two meetings in the one week," Dunn said.

He said his association with bloodstock agent Neil Jenkinson was starting to pay dividends as they combined to buy both Perfect Dare and Kebede.

"Neil has a great eye for a horse and we go to the sales together looking for the right horses for us," Dunn said.

"Perfect Dare is a brother to the Queensland Derby winner Magicool but we are too far behind to think about a 2400-metre race.

"He will probably be ready for the Queensland Guineas at 1600 metres.

"He has won over 1050 metres today and had to come from a wide barrier. It was a very good run."

Dunn said he bought Kebede as a possible Queensland Oaks filly and she was now on course for that race.

"She is well bred by Redoutes Choice out of Hussonet mare so I thought today may have been a shade short," he said.

"But she got the job done and it is on to the winter now.

"Kebede is a long-striding horse who takes time to work into her races so a middle distance should suit her." Dunn had his first win for the day with former French galloper Caillebotte who is also bred in the purple being by top European sire Montjeu.

"Like a lot of international horses he lost his way a bit when first in Australia," Dunn said.

"But since we have had him our main task has been get him to settle. He is a genuine stayer and can win more races here," Dunn said.
