Another import from the Lloyd Williams team has shown he has a big future in Australia.
While the Williams-owned Gallante took centre stage at Randwick on Saturday with his Sydney Cup win and stablemate The United States finished second in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Nevis claimed his second straight win in Melbourne.
Katelyn Mallyon rode the Robert Hickmott-trained Nevis to a hard-fought victory in the Listed Bendigo Golden Mile last month and was aboard again when he led all the way in Saturday's 1600m handicap at Sandown.
It was Nevis' third win in Australia from six starts.
"He's learning each time," Mallyon said.
"He relaxed just a little bit better for me and he was really impressive."
Mallyon believes 1600 metres is a good distance for the son of Dansili at this stage of his career.
"He's only a baby and these horses from overseas, they're a bit flighty and at the moment the mile is good for him," she said.
"He's learning and hopefully later on he can get a bit further."
Along with her two wins on Nevis, Mallyon also recently won on the Williams-owned, Hickmott-trained High Church at Caulfield.
She said she also won on subsequent weight-for-age star Fawkner four years ago at Flemington.
"Lloyd has been a really good supporter of mine, even over my apprenticeship," Mallyon said.
"It's just good that he's giving me these opportunities and I'm winning for him. Hopefully I can win another big one for him soon."
Nevis has had just 10 starts beginning his career with Aidan O'Brien in Ireland where he won fourth on debut in 2012, finishing fourth in a two-year-old race won by The United States.
Runner-up in that race was Dibayani whose best Australian performance for David Hayes and Tom Dabernig was his recent second to Winx in the Chipping Norton Stakes.
