Bred in Ireland, unbeaten in Italy and banished from Hong Kong.
In another example of how the world of horse racing keeps getting smaller, Sapphire Of Patch will make his southern hemisphere debut at Rosehill on Saturday.
Sapphire Of Patch has found his way into Mike Moroney's Sydney stable as the winner of four races from as many starts in Italy.
His resume is topped up with a Listed win in Milan and another at Group Three level in Rome, but Moroney confesses he is unsure how to make any sensible analysis out of Italian two-year-old racing.
"I don't know how strong the two-year-old form in Italy is," he said.
"It's hard to get a line, we haven't got much of a handle on him at all."
Moroney does know that Sapphire Of Patch barely got warm in four Hong Kong barrier trials last year and concedes firm tracks didn't do the horse any favours.
That's why he is sending Sapphire Of Patch out for the first time on Saturday hoping it will be the forerunner to a wet winter along Australia's east coast.
"He's been in Hong Kong but he wanted wet ground so they sent him across because he couldn't keep up in the barrier trials there on top of the ground," Moroney said.
"He's pretty one-paced but he's a real wet-track stayer and he still looks fairly new."
Sapphire Of Patch has been to the barrier trials three times in Sydney and in between two down-the-course efforts, a rain-affected track helped the gelding reveal a glimpse of his European ability with a Randwick placing.
