Having impressed at his first Australian start, import Raw Impulse has his next outing at a track where it's hoped he can make an appearance in one of the spring features.
Raw Impulse is favourite for Saturday's Selangor Turf Club Handicap (1800m) at Caulfield after his track record-breaking 1500m-win at Moonee Valley a month ago.
Part-owner and syndicator Luke Murrell from Australian Bloodstock is excited about the lightly raced horse's potential heading towards the spring and beyond.
"He's probably one of a dozen horses we've got that we've got real big aims for," Murrell said.
"I didn't think he could win at Moonee Valley. I thought he had a few things against him but (trainer) Darren Weir was confident he would be hard to beat.
"And for him to do it so easily, the whole group is really excited about him.
"We're not thinking he's just another horse. We think he's got a bit of X-factor about him."
Raw Impulse did his early racing in the UK where he had a win and three placings from five starts.
The horse's ownership group now includes Australian cricketer David Warner.
Murrell acknowledges Raw Impulse is still learning and has plenty to do to qualify for races like the Caulfield Cup, and says the aim is to try to get him to win a ballot-exempt race.
"On what I saw in Europe he's definitely up to that level," Murrell said.
Murrell said next month's Warrnambool Cup was an option but the Doomben Cup was also a consideration.
"He's still got a bit to do before he gets into better races, but we're hoping this is more of an education preparation and next preparation we might see him in a real good race," he said.
"Whether that's a Mackinnon Stakes or a Caulfield Cup or something, I guess he'll tell us."
