Invincible Me as a yearling
I was thrilled with Invincible Me’s win at Colac on Friday. Invincible Me had a serious hoof injury and after a long spell was transferred to Darren Weir to take advantage of his facilities which includes the stable at Warrnambool with access to the beach where the horses can work. The horse has thrived since the move and seems to be getting his confidence back. Confidence is a big thing with horses and if they are experiencing pain when running they will protect themselves.
Invincible Me has had six runs for Darren for two wins, one second and two third placings. He could have easily won a couple more races and is now ready to step up to 0-70 class at Warrnambool during the May Carnival. He was beautifully ridden by John Allen and Darren and his staff deserve a lot of credit for getting him back on track and winning.
Invincible Me started a run of winners for I Am Invincible with five individual winners on Saturday alone including two Listed wins. He also had two horses placed in Listed races. No wonder they are so popular at the sales.
On Monday at Flemington our I Am Invincible two year old Invincible Al overcame early interference to run home strongly for 5th in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes. This was only his 3rd start and comes after a very good 3rd on debut and strong win 2nd up. He will head to Yarraman Park with Husson Eagle for a good spell.
I have been thrilled with the job Patrick Payne has done for us and we will have the Adelaide Magic Millions winner Atlanta Miss and very progressive 2 year old filly Hussy’s Glow back in work shortly at Plumpton.
You should take a close look at the Delago Deluxe filly I am syndicating for Patrick. She is a really strong, running filly out of a Snitzel mare. More information is available at www.getracing.com.au
ON THE TRACK
The runners keep coming and this week is no different. Tomorrow at Wyong Go Arrivederci and Not Surprising resume. On Friday at Muswellbrook we have Brooklyn Lass resuming and on Saturday we have Flying Jess running in the Group 3 South Australian Sire’s Produce Stakes and Reneged running in the Listed Gunsynd Stakes at Doomben.
We are likely to be well represented at the Scone Carnival and also in the South Australian Autumn Carnival. We certainly seem to have a number of very good gallopers on our books at present.
NEW PAKENHAM COMPLEX
I ventured down to Nar Nar Goon to watch Flying Jess run at the new Pakenham Race Club complex and it would be hard not to be impressed with the layout of the track and facilities on offer. I take my hat off to the designers of the new Pakenham as they have done a remarkable job.
Each of the staff employed at the Pakenham Racing Club deserves a special mention. They all went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable day and we thank them for their efforts.
I have no doubt Pakenham will be a big success in the years ahead. It is in a growth corridor and provides a ‘world class’ facility to its patrons and members.
THERE ARE SOME NICE YEARLINGS ON OFFER AT PRIME THOROUGHBREDS – this week’s featured yearling is a Sebring filly out of A Quiet Shandy.

The filly
The moment I saw this filly I thought I was looking at Unchain My Heart at a similar age. They are very similar with this filly having a touch more scope. She was reared at Edinburgh Park by Ian Smith who bred Silent Witness. She has a strong hindquarter, attractive head and gets around nicely. Her temperament was good and she had no issues when vetted.
It is hard to predict when she will get to the races but she is forward enough to suggest she may get up and going as a two year old and she is by Sebring who gets runners at all ages and distances from precocious two year olds through to Melbourne Cup horses.
I am expecting that she will get better with age which her pedigree suggests will be the case.
Sebring
Sebring is one of our very best sires and currently 8th on the National Sires List. He is the sire of Criterion, one of the best horses in Australia. Sebring won a Golden Slipper and sired Australian Horse Of The Year in Dissident. It is impossible to fault him as a sire.
He possesses a very strong female line which in my opinion is a characteristic most of the best stallions have. Sebring’s sire More Than Ready has done a remarkable job in Australia and is still in great demand.
A Quiet Shandy
A Quiet Shandy is a metropolitan winner and full sister to the Listed and Group 1 winner Becerra. Becerra was placed in the Queensland Oaks and is out of a Scenic mare. If you look down the page we see A Quiet Shout out of a well related Al Maher mare out of a Scenic Mare out of a Best Western mare out of a Tattenham mare.
This pedigree page which sees First Seal, Episode, Macquarie Prince, Book Of Keels and of course Becerra listed suggests to me we may have a classic filly at three.
Our filly was in the wrong sale and would have been better placed in the Inglis Easter Sale where the buyers are looking for classic three year old fillies.
I couldn’t recommend a filly more highly and look forward to her getting to the track. She is ideally suited to racing in Victoria where there are far more races on offer for horses that get over ground than in the other states.
