The mystery of Spill The Beans running the worst race of his career during The Championships may never be solved.
Not that it matters now after the three-year-old emerged as a leading Scone Guineas contender with his Hawkesbury Guineas win on Saturday.
"I still can't work out what happened to him at Randwick," trainer Gerald Ryan said.
"But his blood (count) on Monday was as good as gold and he seemed good in himself so we took the blinkers off him and decided to run."
Spill The Beans ($5.50) never looked like he was going to be run down after Tim Clark took his time to find the front on the three-year-old.
His challengers were short-lived and Spill The Beans had 2-1/4 lengths in hand over Denmagic ($9) with Serene Majesty ($12) finishing a neck away third.
Spill The Beans is raced by Arrowfield Stud's John Messara and Ryan said the high-profile owner wasn't certain about the colt getting the Guineas distance of 1400m.
"When Tim rode him in a trial before the Arrowfield (Stakes) he said 'gee I think this horse should be in a 1400-metre race'," Ryan said.
"It took (Messara) a bit of convincing but we got there."
