Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance has taken part in an exhibition gallop between races at Warrnambool.
Weir won four races on the opening day of Warrnambool's three-day carnival, but the leading trainer was keenly observing the work of Prince Of Penzance and stablemate Tall Ships.
They had a leisurely gallop in preparation for a stakes race in Adelaide.
Weir said the pair would contest the Group Three Robert A Lee Stakes over 1600m at Morphettville on May 21.
He said more work in the dunes at Warrnambool beach and another trial will have them ready for the Adelaide outing.
The duo will then have a short break before the long build-up to the Melbourne Cup.
"I thought they both stretched out well," Weir said.
"They were a little bit slow early but they're both in beautiful order.
"The ground was perfect for them and they will be good tomorrow.
"That's the important thing."
Weir said Prince Of Penzance has been working well since his return from winning last year's Melbourne Cup while Tall Ships needed to learn to switch off.
"He's got the ability but he just goes a bit too keen," Weir said.
