Three-year-old filly Euston Road has snapped a mini drought in town for trainers Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra at Flemington.
Euston Road's win in Saturday's VRC Member Betty Cummings Handicap was welcomed by her co-trainers as it was their first city win since mid-March after a successful summer period.
"We've been finding it hard to hit the board so it was good to get one today," Ellerton said.
Euston Road registered her first metropolitan win after stepping up from a last-start placing at Sale while it was Ellerton and Zahra's 24th victory in Melbourne for the season.
"I thought she was was stiff at Sale," Ellerton said.
"She got a long way out of her ground that day and finished off strongly."
Ridden by Chris Symons on Saturday, Euston Road remained the closest runner to the inside from barrier one in the straight-track sprint and was among a line of five horses in contention at the 100m.
Euston Road ($17) drew clear late to score a half-length win over Stratum Magic with favourite Fleur Fatale a long neck away third.
"She's been racing consistently in lesser grade and I thought today might be a challenge for her but she stepped up to the mark," Symons said.
