Harrison repays Robl faith in Stocking win

Saturday 7 May 2016, 2:55pm

Peter Robl's decision to try something different with a rider for his mare Eloping has given him his first-black type win as a trainer in the Listed Silk Stocking.

Robl opted to try jockey Tegan Harrison for Eloping because she is noted for getting horses to jump from the barriers and run along.

"I suppose it was from left field. But I thought it was something different as mares go well for Tegan and it proved a winning move," Robl said.

"She drew barrier 15 but was in front and flying soon after the start."

Harrison repaid Robl's faith at the Gold Coast on Saturday with a daring ride which saw Eloping ($11) lead all the way to win by three lengths to Miss Cover Girl ($7.50).

"I was able to give her a little rest in the middle stages and when Miss Cover Girl moved up on our outside in the straight, she had a kick," Harrison said.

Robl won four Group Ones and many more stakes races as jockey before a fall ended his riding career.

He took out his trainers' licence in December and has 22 horses in work at Randwick, mainly for Segenhoe Stud.

"To get the opportunity to train for Kevin Maloney and Segenhoe is very fortunate. To get a stakes winner for them is great," Robl said.

Eloping will have a three-week break and then tackle more fillies and mares stakes races during the winter carnival.

Newcastle mare Zestful earned black type with her third but was a length behind Miss Cover Girl.

Golden Slipper placegetter Bring Me The Maid is likely to be retired after finishing last.
