Stradbroke likely target for Sir Moments

Sunday 8 May 2016, 4:15pm

The hoof problem that kept Sir Moments out of the Hollindale Stakes will force a change of Group One targets for the gelding.

Sir Moments had a minor foot problem on Saturday morning and was taken out of the Group Two Hollindale Stakes which was to be his lead-up to the Group One Doomben Cup two weeks later.

Trainer O'Dea remains upbeat about Sir Moments taking part in the Brisbane winter carnival, albeit on a revised program.

"It wasn't that bad but just enough so he couldn't run on Saturday," O'Dea said.

"We will freshen him up and hopefully set him for the Stradbroke (on June 11)," O'Dea said.

The scratching solved one problem for O'Dea and connections as they had been debating which direction to take Sir Moments after the Hollindale (1800m).

One alternative had always been to freshen him and tackle the Stradbroke.

Sir Moments best win was the Group Two Queensland Guineas when it was run over the Stradbroke distance of 1400m.

O'Dea said he was looking forward to getting Sir Moments back on the spacious and newly renovated Eagle Farm track which is due to re-open on Stradbroke day after almost two years.

Divine Centuri, who was also a scratching on Saturday, is likely to run in a three-year-old sprint over 1050m at Doomben on Saturday.

The filly was scratched after drawing barrier 20 in the Gold Coast Guineas.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick feared the filly's racing style meant she would have been trapped wide and decided to save her for another week.

At her previous start on April 23, Divine Centuri beat Sold For Song who was an eye-catching second to Takedown in the Gold Coast Guineas.
