Tommy Berry in line for Maurice G1 ride

Thursday 12 May 2016, 5:04pm

Tommy Berry will ride Maurice if Japan's best racehorse runs in the Group One Yasuda Kinen next month.

Maurice was the 2015 Japanese horse of the year and took his recent record to seven wins from as many starts in capturing the Champions Mile under Joao Moreira in Hong Kong on May 1.

Moreira doesn't have a contract to ride in Japan, paving the way for Berry to end a six-week stint in the country on a high note.

Berry has been outstanding form since heading overseas after the Sydney autumn carnival.

He won the Chairman's Sprint Prize on Australian star Chautauqua at Sha Tin and landed a treble in Japan at the weekend.
