Divine Chills gives owners a big thrill

Saturday 21 May 2016, 1:36pm

A fast-finishing win by Divine Chills at Flemington has provided a moment to remember for her excited owners, including trainer John Sadler's daughter Kate.

Divine Chills' victory in Saturday's National Hall Of Fame Handicap was also a milestone for apprentice Beau Mertens as he registered his first Flemington winner.

Divine Chills is raced by a group of 39 owners with Kate Sadler the manager of the syndicate.

"We just love her. She's all heart," she said.

"She's been in our lives for about 18 months now and we've absolutely loved the journey with her."

Divine Chills made her debut with a Yarra Valley placing in March before winning a maiden at Ballarat late last month at her second start.

Sent out a $26 chance, Divine Chills settled back in the field before finishing strongly as the widest runner to defeat Euston Road ($5.50) by three-quarters of a length with Our Vidia another short half-head away third.

The victory was 18-year-old Mertens' fourth in town after breaking through at Sandown last month.

But it was his first at Melbourne racing's headquarters, a track where his father Peter won an Australian Cup on Sirmione eight years ago.
