Tsaritsa clinches hat-trick in Qld Guineas

Saturday 11 June 2016, 1:08pm

Chris Waller will let the dust settle before committing to a Group One mission for Queensland Guineas winner Tsaritsa.

Tsaritsa, the $4 favourite, emerged from the ruck with a barnstorming finish to win the Guineas by a neck from Denmagic ($18).

Sold For Song ($12) completed a clean-sweep for the fillies against their male rivals when she finished third one-and-a-quarter lengths away.

Waller took a cautious approach when asked whether Tsaritsa will remain in Queensland for the Group One Tatt's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 25.

"We'll have a look at the Tiara but I want to see how the older horses perform in the Stradbroke and weigh a few things up," Waller said.

"The market will tell us if it's a realistic goal to keep her here for the Tiara or whether we set some long term goals for her."

While loath to compare Tsaritsa with his champion mare Winx, Waller was lavish in his praise for the filly after she made it a hat-trick of wins in the Guineas.

"I know she's won her past three starts, but you could easily make a case she should nearly be unbeaten," he said.

"In a few of her earlier races she had absolutely no luck and her record looks good now but could be even better."

Waller said the Group One Epsom Handicap, won last year by Winx, is an option worth serious consideration for Tsaritsa during the spring carnival.

Champion jockey Joao Moreira gave Brisbane racegoers a glimpse of the form which saw him claim the Hong Kong jockeys premiership.

Moreira rode Tsaritsa patiently before bringing the filly home with a well-timed finish in the final 100 metres to win.

"She's a good, tough filly and typical of the way Chris Waller trains his horses," Moreira said.

Jockey Jimmy Orman was pleased with the effort of Sold For Song to finish third.

"There were some doubts on whether she'd run the mile before the race but at least we know now that's not an issue," Orman said.
