Weir chasing down Commonwealth record

Darren Weir has the Commonwealth training record of 334 winners in his sights after a double at Mornington.

Weir saddled up the double on Monday to take his season tally to 306.

He is only the third trainer to pass 300 with David Hayes training 306 in 1991/92 and John Hawkes setting the Commonwealth mark of 334 in 2002/03.

Weir can add to his record with two runners at the Geelong meeting on Tuesday and a further eight runners in six races at Wednesday's Sandown meeting.

He also has a large numbers entered at Ballarat on Thursday, Geelong on Friday and Moonee Valley on Saturday along with Puccini, Scarlet Billows and Shades Of Bella at Ipswich on Saturday.
