Unlike her mother, Typhoon Tess has been a late bloomer with trainer David Payne waiting until now to kick her off at Rosehill.

By Redoute's Choice out of multiple stakes winner and Group One placegetter Gallant Tess, Typhoon Tess is will make her debut over 1350 metres on Saturday.

Gallant Tess was an autumn two-year-old, winning the Listed Fernhill Hcp (1600m) before running third behind Mentality and Miss Finland in the 2006 Group One Champagne Stakes, also over 1600m.

Also trained by Payne and raced by John Cordina and Sandy Ward, Gallant Tess raced in top company throughout her career.

"Typhoon Tess is certainly not quite as forward as her mother at the same age," Payne said.

"She's also a but smaller and quite rangy. We are hoping she will get over a bit of distance and I'm looking forward to seeing what she shows on Saturday."

The filly's elder brother Rock Hero did not begin his career until even later, winning the Listed Dulcify Quality as a spring three-year-old at his fifth start.

Rock Hero now stands at Lauriston Park at Euroa in country Victoria.

Payne will also have the more experienced Ocean City in the 2YO handicap. The gelding has had three starts for a win and a second and will be racing for the first time since March.

"He's not a big horse but I do think he is looking for ground," Payne said.

One of the older members of the stable, Foreign Prince, will be looking to capitalise on his wet track win last Saturday week when he runs in the Kensei Hcp (2000m).

"He won at his third start back so he is even fitter now," Payne said.

"The wet track was a big help to him so hopefully it is soft again on Saturday."

The Bjorn Baker-trained Sebrina and Queenslander Hi Son from the David Kelly stable have been added to the original seven nominations.

Group Three winner Beyond Thankful is the 61kg topweight with Foreign Prince on 56kg.
