Premiership battle to continue at Sandown

Wednesday 12 July 2017, 6:55am

The Melbourne jockeys' premiership battle will continue at Sandown with Craig Williams returning to city racing after a recent careless riding suspension.

Williams missed the past two city meetings and apprentice Beau Mertens took advantage to move to a four-win lead courtesy of a winning treble at Flemington last Saturday.

Wednesday's Sandown meeting is one of six city fixtures remaining for the season and both Williams and Mertens have good books of rides.

Five-time premiership winner Williams will be striving to chip away at Mertens lead and could do so with five of his eight rides favourites in their respective races, including the in-form Yogi who is at $2.10 to make it three-straight wins.
