Speedy filly Life On The Wire landed the latest win for More Than Ready's son Pluck (USA) with an all-the-way victory against older horses at Devonport on Sunday.

Despite drifting to the middle of the track in the straight, she scored by a length in the Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1000m) for trainers Scott & David Brunton.   It was an impressive first-up performance following a fourth on debut in the LR Gold Sovereign Stakes in February.

“We’ve got a big opinion of the filly,” David Brunton said.  “She’s still raw.  The tracks are terrible down here and she didn’t even have a grass gallop before Sunday.

“She’s had two starts now and we’ve thrown her in at the deep end both times.  She wasn’t ready for the Gold Sovereign, either.  But we knew she was good and we decided to go ahead because there wasn’t anything suitable for another month.”

The Bruntons train out of Seven Mile Beach in Tasmania and Bangholme on the Mornington peninsula.  “We will tip her out for 6 to 8 weeks and I’m pretty sure she will end up at Bangholme.  She will make a nice three year-old in the spring - she’s pushing 16 hands already.”

Life On The Wire (2f Pluck - Our Seventh Heaven by Vettori) is from the immediate family of the Brunton-trained stakes winners Life To The Full (LR Tasmanian Newmarket) and What Life Brings (LR Hobart Guineas).

“We went to buy another Pluck this year but had no luck at the Gold Coast and then got beaten for one in Adelaide.  This filly has a bit of the devil in her and so did the others in her family.  Hopefully, it will help her fire up when she goes to Melbourne.”

A permanent resident at Vinery, Pluck (USA) stands alongside his shuttling sire More Than Ready for a $9,900 (inc gst) service fee.  He won the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs and has sired 5 first-crop winners in Australia, NZ and South Africa.
