Hulbert seeks soft track for Endless Days

Friday 24 June 2016, 11:44am

The prospect of a soft track has trainer Peter Hulbert confident he can win his first stakes race in a new partnership with his son Will at Eagle Farm.

The Hulberts have had a steady stream of winners from a small team since they formed their partnership last August but are yet to win a stakes race.

They have Endless Days, a last-start Gold Coast winner against older horses, in the Listed Wintergarten 2YO (1400m) on Saturday.

Eagle Farm was hit by 85mm of rain last Sunday and has dried out well in the past week but there is still plenty of give in its racing surface.

The Hulberts have trained all of Endless Days's dam Endless Maize's offspring for considerable success.

Hulbert said he knew the breed well and the traits they could develop.

"Almost all of them throw their heads around in races if there is no pace on. Endless Days is no different but when he settles he can finish very hard," Hulbert said.

"You saw that when he came from last to win at Doomben earlier this year and he came from third last to win at the Gold Coast."

"He just needs pace in his races and he can settle and run home well."

Hulbert said Brad Stewart had turned in the ride of the day when Endless Days won at the Gold Coast.

"He will have to be at his best from barrier 13 on Saturday. But the sting should be out of the track and it might be an advantage to be away from the fence," he said.
