Australian form on show in New Zealand

Wednesday 29 June 2016, 9:43am

Three Australian Group One winners are among the eight finalists for New Zealand's champion three-year-old title.

Australian Derby winner Tavago, Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa and Queensland Oaks winner Provocative head the list which includes dual NZ Group One winner Xtravagant and Vinery Stud stakes runner-up Valley Girl.

Provocative's Tony Pike-trained stablemate Sacred Elixir is among the contenders for champion two-year-old courtesy of his J J Atkins win at Eagle Farm earlier this month.

Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan is one of three contenders to be the leading stayer.

The winners will be announced on August 7 with all finalists eligible for the NZ Horse of the Year award.
