Happy Event wins Bruce McLachlan Memorial

Saturday 2 July 2016, 2:28pm

Classy two-year-old Happy Event has booked herself a Melbourne spring carnival campaign.

Happy Event ($2.10) was always travelling like a winner at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday and came away to beat Rare Occurrence ($3.80) by 1-1/4 lengths in the Bruce McLachlan Memorial.

Trainer John Zielke said Happy Event had always been aimed at Melbourne but her win on Saturday confirmed the trip.

"She will chase the straight-six (1200m) races down there for three-year-olds.

"I have had a good two-year-old season but I have always rated her among our best juveniles.

"There is black type all the way through her family and she can follow suit later in her career."

Happy Event took her prize money to $145,000, a figure that should help her get into the better races in Melbourne.
