Flamboyer wins Listed Glasshouse Handicap

Saturday 2 July 2016, 4:15pm

Trainer Kelly Doughty's decision to keep Flamboyer in Queensland has reaped a stakes win in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap.

Doughty had been tossing up whether to take Flamboyer to Grafton for the Ramornie Handicap on July 13 or to Sydney for a race on a wet track.

But in the end she decided to scrap both ideas and headed to the Glasshouse at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Flamboyer, who was backed from $7 into $5.50, repaid her faith by leading all the way to beat Saluter by 1-3/4 lengths with three-quarters of a length to Stratum Star.

"When he won at Eagle Farm last week it was his first run in six weeks. We knew he would be improved but we decided the Ramornie would be a high-pressure race," Doughty said.

"The Glasshouse looked a race Flamboyer could lead and then kick in the straight. That is how it turned out."

Flamboyer was bred by Doughty's husband Gary and long-time stable client Peter Breen.

"We have had plenty of luck with horses we have bred and he is another one," Doughty said.

Doughty said Flamboyer's next race could be the Tattersall's Mile at Eagle Farm in three weeks.

The win gave jockey Jeff Lloyd 67-1/2 metropolitan winners for the season which puts him 1-1/2 winners in front of nearest rival Jim Byrne in the premiership race.
