Dartmouth among RV scout's spring targets

Wednesday 6 July 2016, 6:43am

A Royal Ascot-winning horse owned by The Queen tops Leigh Jordon's wish-list for this year's Melbourne spring carnival.

Jordon, Racing Victoria's international recruitment officer, has started a three-week trip to France, Ireland, Germany and Britain aimed at attracting top horses from Europe to Melbourne for the spring carnival's feature races.

Jordon hopes Dartmouth's trainer Sir Michael Stoute will consider a trip to Melbourne for the Hardwicke Stakes winner.

"I'd love to get Dartmouth to Australia," Jordon said.

"For one, I think he's the right sort of horse, and to have the Queen's horse come to Australia in the year of her 90th birthday would be fantastic.

"He's right at the top of my wish-list for this year's spring racing carnival.

"The main concern is that he will probably run in the King George Stakes next and then possibly the Arc in France."

Jordon is expected to touch base with some familiar names to Australian racing including 2014 Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist's German trainer Andreas Wohler.

He will also talk to Ed Dunlop, trainer of three-time Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux and Trip To Paris who finished fifth last year after his second in the Caulfield Cup.
