Trainer Ciaron Maher and FLR's Ashleigh Dowley run through SEVEN forthcoming 2-year-old runners with the Caulfield team as we build into a very exciting July ahead of a massive Spring!
Savvy Belle is building towards her first win and she rounded out preparations for her 1400m 2YO Maiden on Friday 8 July at Pakenham with a strong solo gallop this morning working home her final 400m in 23.2 seconds. The daughter of Smart Missile was just a touch green last start over 1200m when racing on speed, however, we trust it was the run and experience she needed to have and having continued to improve all campaign fingers crossed Friday is her day to shine.
Nasdex was luckless first-up despite doing all the right things at home heading into that race. This morning he worked with a stablemate over 800m and comfortably his last 400m in 22.5 seconds and he looks to have come on from his first-up run. We've identified a 1000m 2YO race at Moonee Valley for him next Wednesday 13 July and fingers crossed he can draw the right barrier.
Onto the forthcoming debutants and the improver of the stable is without doubt See The Night. She worked with two stablemates this morning in what Ciaron described as a 'maintenance' gallop and her work was strong. We have a range of options with her including 1200m Echuca Monday 11 July, 1000m Cranbourne Thursday 14 July and 1200m Sandown Wednesday 20 July and we'll tailor a program around those options before confirming a preferred target.
So You Think colt Kaching was amongst the better workers of the morning in his pre race hitout ahead of his debut at Pakenham on Friday 8 July. Working with a stablemate - Kaching was given his head and asked to accelerate for really the first time in his career and he stopped the clock at 11 seconds flat for his final 200m in work that impressed the team.
Best mate Choux Bacquat is also nearing a race debut working strongly this morning. In what was his sharpest gallop this campaign - he was really strong over 800m working his last 400m in 22.4 seconds - and we're really happy with the son of Jimmy's Choux progress. There's a 1200m Maiden at Warracknabeal this Sunday 10 July that shapes as a suitable first-up option for him.
Baltic Amber and Littlesnitz are both coming to hand nicely this campaign. Ciaron is leaning towards giving the pair just one trial next Tuesday here at Caulfield before a probable race debut and hence this morning's trial was bypassed in favour of a track gallop. The fillies worked over 800m and their last 400m in 23.5 seconds in pretty comfortable work. We'll assess the pairs racing manners at next Tuesday's trials before planning a first-up assignment for each.
