Sam Clipperton to ride in Hong Kong

Thursday 7 July 2016, 4:19pm

Young Sydney jockey Sam Clipperton says he is excited about the next phase of his career in Hong Kong.

Clipperton has been given a club contract to ride in the Asian racing capital from July until December.

It has been a great year for Clipperton who rode his first Group One winner on Peeping in the Coolmore Classic in March and backed it up with another on English in the All Aged Stakes at the end of the Sydney autumn carnival.

"It's a great opportunity and a great privilege to be invited," Clipperton told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

"I can't wait. I'm very excited to get over there.

"I'll go over a month before the season starts (in September) and give myself every opportunity to give myself a good start and get used to the new routine."

Clipperton won two Sydney apprentices' titles when he was indentured to Ron Quinton and has been in the top 10 Sydney jockeys for the past two seasons.

Other Australians riding under contract in Hong Kong are Zac Purton, Brett Prebble, Nash Rawiller and Chad Schofield.
