Missile Stakes return for Capitalist

Sunday 10 July 2016, 3:24pm

Golden Slipper winner Capitalist is being aimed at a weight-for-age return in the first Sydney Group race of the new season.

The colt will step out in a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday with the Group Two Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 6 his first target as a three-year-old.

"He trials this Friday and possibly has another trial and then possibly he'll run in the Missile Stakes on the sixth of August," Snowden said.

"He had five or six weeks off and he's been in work about two-and-a-half months. So far, touch wood, everything is going fine.

"I'm happy with his work and his attitude is good. All is good."

Snowden said the colt's spring campaign was likely to be broken into two sections.

The Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds at Flemington is also on the agenda and that is not until October 29.

"We'll just go one race at a time. The Coolmore is definitely on the radar. That's the ultimate goal," Snowden said.

"He'll probably have a three-race preparation, then a short break, and then come back again for the end of the carnival. When you've got them up and racing in August, it's a long time until November.

"I'd say he'll have three runs and then a short break and then come back and have one lead-up into the Coolmore, or something like that."

Capitalist is likely to have his first three starts in Sydney and then two runs in Melbourne.

Snowden said the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 10 was a possibility.

"The Missile is his first run and then maybe the Run To The Rose. We'll just take one race at a time," he said.

Capitalist has won four of his five starts but has yet to be tested beyond 1200 metres.
