Chiong caps Hong Kong season with title

Monday 11 July 2016, 6:35am

Champion apprentice Kei Kei Chiong has been named Hong Kong's most popular jockey ahead of one-month stint in Australia.

Chiong, who beat Joao Moreira in the public vote, ended the Hong Kong season as the leading apprentice and the top local rider with 37 wins for the season.

She will now join leading Adelaide trainer Philip Stokes for a month during the Hong Kong off-season.

Chiong is the first female licensed to ride in Hong Kong since Carol Yu retired in 2000.

Moreira rode five winners on the final day to end his stellar season on a record 168 wins while ex-pat Australian John Size regained the trainers' championship.
