My Sister Lil ready for Caulfield return

Thursday 14 July 2016, 4:08pm

Former Perth mare My Sister Lil is putting her racing career on the line when she resumes at Caulfield.

My Sister Lil, who had form around eastern seaboard Group winners Black Heart Bart and Real Love in Perth, contests the Mypunter.com Handicap on Saturday.

A Listed grade winner and placed at Group Three level before joining Cranbourne trainer John Price last autumn, My Sister Lil was sent to Melbourne to enhance her record and her broodmare value.

After starting her career with Price's brothers Ross and Clint in Perth, My Sister Lil performed strongly in three Group Three mares races to close out her autumn campaign, including running fourth to Azkadellia at Caulfield.

"Her three runs she's had here, there was not a great deal of difference between them, except in two she had wide gates and one she had a good gate," Price said.

"The day she drew a good gate she went very close to Azkadellia."

Price said My Sister Lil had a tough road trip from Perth, travelling across the Nullabor in 42 degree heat which was followed by a float breakdown in Adelaide.

He said she was bottomed out on arrival but recovered well enough to give a good account of herself in her three runs before a spell.

Ideally Price would have liked to give the mare a longer break but with the breeding season looming, decided to give her another chance on the racetrack.

However Price said if her form didn't measure up she would be sent to stud.

With two jump-outs at Cranbourne under her belt Price is expecting My Sister Lil to run a forward race.

"The first one was an easy trial, the second one she ran a nice second," he said.

"Since then it's been more about recovery and keeping her fresh.

"I expect her to run a good race without being cocky about it but I think she's forward enough to run a good race as long as we have a bit of luck from the barrier."

Ben Allen will pull 3kg off My Sister Lil's allotted weight of 57.5kg while the mare has met with good support in early betting firming from $17 to $8.50.
