Which Schockemohle will turn up at Caulfield?

That's a question trainer Brett Scott is asking ahead of the Rockmount Pretraining Handicap over 2000m on Saturday.

Although Schockemohle returned to winning form at Moonee Valley last start, Scott said the gelding can be a difficult ride.

But Scott said jumping had switched Schockemohle on mentally for his flat racing.

The gelding got his ticket to race over hurdles when he finished second in a school at Burrumbeet, four days after his Moonee Valley success on June 18.

All being well, Schockemohle will make his jumps debut in a maiden hurdle at Bendigo on Sunday week.

Before then, Schockemohle runs on the flat on Saturday with Scott hoping to replicate the performance at Moonee Valley where Michael Walker was able to dictate the race.

"It was a good win at Moonee Valley," Scott said.

"He got all the favours but he's fit and in good order for Saturday, has drawn a good gate and Michael seems to click with him.

"He's probably not the easiest horse to ride but he settled well for Michael and gave his all at the end.

"He's going up in grade to an open handicap but he's coming down in weight which is a big help."

The Caulfield track on Thursday was rated in the soft range, a suitable surface for Schockemohle although Scott said he would like it a little wetter.

"As long as the track's got the jar out of it," Scott said.

"I've found with him now if he runs on good ground he does pull up a little funny.

"He's got a few little niggling problems, nothing major, a little bit of wear and tear but the jumping's got his mind right."

Schockemohle is a $13 chance with Longeron, who is aiming for a third straight win, the $3.50 favourite.
