Sea King has given trainer Patrick Payne and jockey Steven Pateman another big jumps win with his victory in the Mosstrooper Steeple at Bendigo.
The nine-year-old was on his favourite wet ground for Sunday's race but had to work hard to get the better of Gold A Plenty by a head.
Sea King divides his time between Payne and New Zealand trainer Kevin Myers.
"I was going better than the other horse but I was finding it hard to ride him right out," Pateman told racing.com.
"He lays all over his opposition and he's just difficult to ride out. Once he got his head in front he was never going to get beat.
"He's got that seasoning in New Zealand and he gets through the ground easily."
The other feature jumps race at Bendigo was also decided by a head with the Darren Weir-trained Zanteco beating King Of Dudes in the Brendon Dreschler Hurdle.
It was another big win over obstacles for dual purpose jockey Jamie Mott.
"It was a really good effort and pleasing to get a winner for Darren Weir," Mott said.
