Sun Stud’s exciting young sire, MOSHE, has maintained his handy lead in the Victorian First Season Sires’ premiership with a first and third in the 980m juvenile race at Swan Hill on Monday.
Both the Gwenda Johnstone trained, FLYING BATYA and Jamie Edwards’ ALUF were stepping out for the first time and each put in glowing performances before Flying Batya eventually ran away with the major prize: defeating Darren Weir’s red-hot favourite, Autonomous in the process.
A homebred for Gwenda Johnstone, Flying Batya is out of the Flying Spur mare, Notrebelle, and is closely related to South Australian Group winner, Distillation, while Aluf was bred by DR Lyons and hails from the Umatilla mare, Cazzuma.
Moshe, the only full brother to Black Caviar standing at stud, is clearly poised for a promising career at stud via the likes of stakes winner, Moshki, plus black type horses, Moshway and El Venetian, and has forged around $65,000 clear of his nearest Victorian rival, Helmet, on the national first season sires’ chart.
