Stewards adjourn inquiry into Sandown fall

Wednesday 27 July 2016, 2:47pm

Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into a fall at Sandown that has put two jockeys in hospital.

Apprentice Jake Bayliss and senior rider Patrick Keane were taken to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital for assessment following the fall on Wednesday.

Bayliss fell first on Bonnie Belle in the 1600-metre race with Keane on Big Delight also coming down around the 600m mark.

Both riders were conscious and moving limbs before being transported to hospital.

A Victorian Jockeys' Association statement said Bayliss was complaining mostly of left shoulder and lower right leg pain.

Keane was complaining of right side pain in the shoulder, scapula, ribs, pelvis and knee.

Racing Victoria stewards opened an inquiry into the fall, taking evidence from winning rider Ben Allen along with Ben Thompson and Dwayne Dunn.

After showing the riders film of the incident, stewards adjourned the hearing.

Dunn said he was racing on the fence aboard third-placed Winter Chiller.

"It was happening all around me, he said.

"There was bunching and movement but there was no call and it all happened pretty quickly."

Regan Bayliss, who won the final race on Jungle Edge, said it was a relief his brother seemed to have come through the fall relatively unscathed.

"For any jockey to fall you have that sick feeling in your stomach," he said.

"When it's your brother, you can't describe that feeling.

"When I first found out he was conscious, that was a big relief."
