Mahuta early favourite for Bletchingly

Thursday 28 July 2016, 6:43am

Multiple stakes-winning colt Mahuta is the early favourite to take out the final Group race of the season.

The Darren Weir-trained Mahuta resumes from a spell in Saturday's Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield and is at $3.40 in an early market, just ahead of Fast `N' Rocking at $3.80.

The weight-for-age 1200m race has a field of 12 which includes popular gelding The Cleaner and last year's winner Smokin' Joey.

The Phillip Stokes-trained Runway Star, winner of the Proud Miss Stakes in Adelaide at her most recent start, is on the third line of betting at $7.50 with Lord Of The Sky at $9.

Melbourne jockeys' premiership leader Craig Williams, who rides Charmed Harmony in the Bletchingly, takes a three-win lead over Dwayne Dunn into the final metropolitan meeting of the season.

Williams missed Wednesday's penultimate meeting at Sandown because of a careless riding suspension but Dunn was unable to bridge the gap as he went winless from eight rides.
