Punctured lung for jockey Patrick Keane

Thursday 28 July 2016, 11:49am

Jockey Patrick Keane has suffered a punctured lung in a race fall at Sandown.

Keane and apprentice Jake Bayliss were taken to the Alfred Hospital after they both came down in a race on Wednesday.

"Patrick Keane has got a punctured lung. From the time he fell he was complaining of right-side soreness through his shoulder, his scapula, his ribs, pelvis and knee," Des O'Keeffe from the Victorian Jockeys Association told RSN927.

"But the tests thus far have indicated that there's no structural damage, just very significant soft tissue stuff.

"Jake Bayliss is still at the Alfred Hospital but the neck brace is off. All his head and abdominal scans are clear.

"The doctors have still got a question mark over his left shoulder and are going to redo the CT scan because they just want to have another look at it. But overall he seems to have got out of that very well.

O'Keeffe said the pair would undergo more tests on Thursday.

"More may come to light but at this stage it looks like a really good outcome for both riders from what looked a very, very serious fall."
