Coffs Harbour trainer Sally Taylor added another first to her fledgling career when Rednav won at Doomben and she is now looking at a second black type win in coming months.
Taylor, who took out her licence in February, scored her eighth winner from just 33 runners when Rednav ($4) won the Mekka Race Day Handicap (2200m).
Rednav had won the Listed Grafton Cup at his previous start but it was Taylor's first win in a metropolitan race.
"Excuse me, I am shaking. To win a Grafton Cup and then win an open handicap with my first city runner - well, it is just amazing," Taylor said.
"I know Rednav went up to 59kg but I wasn't worried about the weight, rather how the race would be run in a small field."
The 23-year-old former show jump star still works in the mobile phone store owned by Peter Wood, who races Rednav with friends.
"Peter has been terrific to me. I have 10 horses now but I am still happy to work in the store," said Taylor, who rides all of her own work.
She said she would now look at the Group Three Newcastle Cup in mid-September and possibly the Group One Randwick Metropolitan in October as the main spring missions for Rednav.
"We will probably go with the Wyong Cup into the Newcastle Cup and then, perhaps, the Metropolitan. We might even get a soft track for some of those," she said.
Rednav was handled well by his usual jockey Peter Graham, who didn't panic when the gelding was second last early.
"I haven't been here for six to eight years and it is good to get a chance in the city," he said.
