Hidden Pearl could be Sydney-bound

Thursday 4 August 2016, 1:48pm

Talented mare Hidden Pearl will have a double-edged mission when she returns to racing at Eagle Farm after an injury-enforced break.

Hidden Pearl will be on course for a trip to Sydney and to help apprentice Bridget Grylls get back in the limelight if she races well in Saturday's Tim Bell Memorial Hcp (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

The mare hasn't run since finishing 10th as favourite in the Group Three Mumm Stakes at Flemington on November 5.

Trainer Barry Lockwood said Hidden Pearl had come out of the race with a leg injury.

"We have taken our time getting her back. She had four months in the paddock and then five months back in the stables where she was given an easy build-up," Lockwood said.

"She has had a couple of jump-outs and gone well but you don't know until they race."

Hidden Pearl has won five of her 12 starts and only been unplaced once in eight starts since joining Lockwood at Eagle Farm.

"She still has a couple of wins left in restricted class in Brisbane. If she goes well on Saturday there is another race for her in a fortnight," Lockwood said.

"Then if she goes well in both there are races such as The Shorts in Sydney for her."

Lockwood has plenty of confidence in stable apprentice Grylls.

"She had a golden run when she had a three kilogram and two kilogram claim. But I think she has the talent to be a top rider and just needs the opportunities," he said.

"Hopefully Hidden Pearl can get her back into the limelight."
