Jumps jockey banned for careless riding

Monday 8 August 2016, 5:56am

Irishman Tom Ryan has been suspended for two jumps meetings on a careless riding charge.

Ryan, who fell from Gold A Plenty in the Crisp Steeplechase at Sandown on Sunday, was charged with careless riding from an incident earlier in the race.

Stewards said Ryan tightened King Of The Forest, ridden by Jarrod Lynch, 400m after the start.

The ban means Ryan will miss the Grand National Hurdle meeting at Riccarton in New Zealand on Wednesday and the Morphettville meeting on Saturday in Adelaide.

He is free to return for the Ballarat two-day jumps festival on August 20 and 21.
