O'Reilly Cyrus on Golden Rose mission

Wednesday 17 August 2016, 2:03pm

O'Reilly Cyrus will have another start in Brisbane in an attempt to ensure she makes the field for the Group One Golden Rose.

O'Reilly Cyrus is at $101 to win the Golden Rose and at the moment is an outsider to gain a start.

She won on debut last year and then started favourite when seventh in the Karaka Million at Ellerslie in January.

Trainer Liam Birchley gave her a long spell with the $1 million Golden Rose at Rosehill on September 10 in mind.

O'Reilly Cyrus was an unlucky fifth first-up at Doomben and then came from last to finish third at Eagle Farm last week.

"The Eagle Farm run was very good and she ticks a few boxes for me," Birchley said.

"I know she will run the 1400 metres and if it is still wet in Sydney she will handle that.

"But the problem is getting her in. It is a bit hard to actually find out where she is at the moment."

Birchley said to increase O'Reilly Cyrus's chances of making the field she would start in a Plate race at Doomben on Saturday week.

"If she can win or run a place it should just about put her in the Rose. Some years it isn't a full field but we can't take that chance," Birchley said.
