Rough Justice fitter for second-up run

Wednesday 17 August 2016, 3:16pm

Rough Justice is expected to improve from his first-up run at Flemington and co-trainer Simon Zahra is looking for a better result at Moonee Valley.

The five-year-old gelding resumed over 1000m at Flemington on August 6 and was in the firing line at the 200m before tiring late to finish seventh in the race won by Shaf.

The winner of six of his 22 starts, Rough Justice lines up in Saturday's William Hill Handicap (1200m) in a field which includes the three placegetters from the Flemington race.

"He had a good blow the other day and probably just knocked up a bit," Zahra said.

"He's pretty lazy at home and was probably just a touch vulnerable first-up. He's taken good improvement out of that."

Rough Justice has raced three times at Moonee Valley for a win over 955m first-up last preparation and two placings as a three-year-old.

Zahra says it can be hard to get a line on Rough Justice from his trackwork because he is so laid-back.

Rough Justice is one of six acceptors for the stable at Saturday's meeting, highlighted by Group-winning sprinter Heatherly who is the early favourite for the Listed Carlyon Stakes.
