Birchley quartet to improve on last starts

Friday 26 August 2016, 11:23am

Having come away with four thirds at the recent Eagle Farm meeting, trainer Liam Birchley is taking the same quartet to Doomben expecting better results.

At Eagle Farm last Saturday week, three of the team drew barrier one but the inside section of the track proved inferior.

"You wouldn't believe it three of my horses bogged down and the fourth drew wide but had to go back after getting caught very deep early," Birchley said.

The four - O'Reilly Cyrus, Deconstructed, Desert General and Hardline - will all front up again at Doomben on Saturday.

Most interest will be on O'Reilly Cyrus who Birchley hopes can make the field for the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill next month.

O'Reilly Cyrus is aiming to pick up more prize money in the Class 3 Plate (1350m) and Birchley has booked experienced jockey Jason Taylor to ride her at 51.5kg on Saturday.

"She gets in very well at the weights but then again she is a three-year-old filly who has won only one race," Birchley said.

"I can't remember the last time Jason rode for me but he can ride light and he has won Group One races."

Birchley is also hoping 2015 Karaka Million winner Hardline is back to his best in the Class 6 Plate (1200m).

"It was a much better run last time at Eagle Farm while Desert General and Deconstructed should both be competitive in the 1600 metre one metro win race," he said.
