Lindsay Park mares tackle Cockram Stakes

Friday 26 August 2016, 11:46am

After nominating four runners for the Group Three Cockram Stakes at Caulfield, Lindsay Park will rely on stable newcomer Jessy Belle and Kayjay's Joy.

Both are $10 in an open market on Saturday's 1200m-sprint with Ocean Embers favourite at $4.80.

Tom Dabernig, who trains in partnership with David and Ben Hayes under the Lindsay Park banner, says both mares go into the race in top order.

"Jessy Belle's having her first run for our stable after she campaigned in Queensland and we're still learning about her," Dabernig said.

"But she's been going well up at the farm."

Previously trained by Luke Oliver, Jessy Belle won consecutive Flemington 1400m-races before a freshen-up leading into last year's Cockram in which she finished fifth behind Madam Gangster.

She was then placed three times over 1400m in mares' Group races before running seventh in the Myer Classic at Flemington last November.

Dabernig said it was the stable's intention to follow a similar program this year.

"She ran first-up in the race last year but her best form is over 1400 metres to a mile," Dabernig said.

"We've taken the fresh approach into it and based on her work she should run really well."

Kayjay's Joy is coming off a break but Dabernig says the mare performs well fresh although he admits he is concerned with the second widest draw in the field which has been reduced to 14 with the scratchings of Shakespearean Lass and Make Her Own Whey.

Ocean Embers has the outside gate.

"She's had a little bit of time between runs and has drawn wide but she's a very good Caulfield horse," Dabernig said.
