Mymancharles to take big step at Doomben

Friday 26 August 2016, 2:08pm

Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea is reaping the benefit of astute breeding decisions with his young horses such as Doomben runner Mymancharles.

Tregea's Windemere Stud syndicate breeds and races many horses with the best known Love Rocks who was a stakes winner at Doomben three years ago.

Mymancharles landed a solid betting move when he won a midweek Doomben maiden on August 3 and he was entered for Caloundra on Wednesday.

But Tregea has decided to test Mymancharles against the better horses in Saturday's Cascade Three-Year-Old (1110m).

"I had another of my horses, Rhyming, in the same race at Caloundra and she won well. I decided it was time to give Mymancharles his chance at bigger prize money," Tregea said.

He says he has an opinion of Mymancharles, who he rates above Rhyming, but is not getting carried away.

"Mymancharles beat Rhyming easily in a trial before they raced but Rhyming has won two races since then," Tregea said.

"Mymancharles has done everything right to date. But he will have to step up at only his second start on Saturday."
